New York: Monroe County Clerk adds 'Pistol Permit Saturdays' for gun owners
Monroe County Clerk Adam Bello is adding special Saturday hours for processing pistol permit transactions at the clerk’s office.
The Clerk’s Office at 39 W. Main Street will be open from 9 a.m. to noon on Dec. 9, 16 and 30. Additionally, Bello is adding pistol permit transactions in 2018 to the regularly-scheduled, once-monthly “Passport Saturdays” held in different suburbs.
During the Saturday events, residents will be able to have their permit-related amendments and transactions processed. However, permit applications will still have to be submitted during regular business hours, in order to facilitate the fingerprint and background check process.
“The demand for pistol permit services has been surging recently as the holiday season gets underway, and as the New York state recertification process has driven permit holders to update their permits, resulting in many questions,” said Bello. “Providing additional Saturday hours is a simple way to enhance the customer service experience, making our services much more convenient for local gun owners who need to perform pistol permit transactions.”
Also, Bello is reminding permit holders who got their permits prior to Jan. 15, 2013, that they must recertify before Jan. 31. Recertification can be done via the state Police website at firearms.troopers.ny.gov/pprecert. Paper forms are also available at the clerk’s office.
